Hooding Procedures

The following describes the appropriate hooding process for the doctoral student and the faculty hooder:

  1. STUDENT: Prior to walking to the stage, hold your hood by the top collar and fold it in half length-wise. Bend your left arm and hang the hood over your forearm with the top of the hood on the outside.
  2. FACULTY: When the student approaches and faces you, remove the hood hanging over their arm.
  3. STUDENT: Turn around with your back to your faculty hooder.
  4. FACULTY: Open the hood wide enough to fit over the student's head, and drape the hood across their shoulders, so the collar is close to their neck in the front and the length of the hood falls down their back.
  5. FACULTY: Slightly spread and adjust the hood in the back, loosely folding over the white trim so the KU colors show.
  6. The hooding is complete!
